On December 13, 2011, the Hawai`i Supreme Court amended Rule 6.1 of the Hawai`i Rules of Professional Conduct (“HRPC”) and adopted HRPC Rule 6.5.   The amendment to Rule 6.1 allows a $500 monetary contribution in lieu of the recommended minimum of 50 hours of pro bono service hours per year.   HRPC Rule 6.5 allows lawyers working with non-profit organizations who are providing limited legal services to be exempt from HRPC Rules 1.7 and 1.9(a) regarding conflicts of interest.
