The Hawai`i Access to Justice Commission received a grant from the ABA Center for Access to Justice Initiatives, which allowed the Commission to work on the enhancement of language services for self-represented litigants.
A brochure was developed that explains how to request an interpreter and provides tips on preparing for and going to court. The brochure is translated into Chuukese, Ilokano, Korean, Marshallese, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
Additional translated materials include: (1) An Information Sheet about the Kapolei Access to Justice Room (Self-Help Center), which is translated into Spanish and Japanese; (2) “Frequently Asked Divorce-Related Questions,” which is translated into Chuukese and Spanish; and (3) “Landlord and Tenant Law in the State of Hawaii,” which is translated into Ilokano and Spanish.
